Jongno-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Moon-heon) launched the 2023 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign and held the unveiling ceremony of the “Thermometer of Love” on December 22 in the lobby of Jongno-gu Office.

To raise residents’ interest and actively promote the fundraising campaign, a thermometer tower was installed in the first-floor lobby of the district office to display the donation status in real time.

In addition, a photo zone was set up with selfie sticks and customized signs to encourage citizens to participate by taking commemorative photos.

The campaign runs from December 15, 2022, to February 14, 2023. The fundraising goal is 1.2 billion KRWwhich is 20% higher than the average amount raised over the past three years.

Anyone who wishes to contribute can do so via QR code access or by transferring to the Community Chest of Korea Seoul branch donation account. Donations can also be made in person with cash, rice, or daily necessities at the Welfare Policy Division and 17 local community centers.

For individuals, tax deductions can be processed through the National Tax Service’s year-end settlement simplification service without a separate receipt. Businesses can receive official donation receipts.

Inquiries are handled by the Welfare Resources Team of the Welfare Policy Division.

The funds, food, and daily necessities collected will be distributed to vulnerable households within the district (such as basic livelihood recipients, low-income families, seniors living alone, people with disabilities, and multicultural families) who are in urgent need or unable to access public assistance.

Meanwhile, the unveiling ceremony on December 22 was attended by Mayor Jeong Moon-heon, the chairpersons of 17 community welfare councils, and the chairman of Jongno-gu Social Welfare Council. On the same day, Shim Myung Cultural Foundation (Chairman Lee Kyung-jae) donated 1.5 billion KRW to help neighbors in need.

Mayor Jeong Moon-heon stated:

“The valuable donations and goods provided by residents, companies, and organizations will be used meaningfully for vulnerable neighbors.”

“I ask for wide participation in this campaign to share warm hearts and hope with those who may feel the winter season even more harshly.”
